Being a Good Literary Citizen

Samuel Johnson said, “never trust a man who writes more than he reads.” Writers need to read. And I do, 109 books last year, from a wide variety of genres: memoirs, mysteries, craft books on writing, popular fiction and YA. But I rarely write about the books I love.

I recently joined the Writers’ Union of Canada, and the first webinar I attended was on Book Reviews, and how writing them, and spreading the word about books that you admire, is part of being a good literary citizen.

Starting now, I’m committing to sharing some of my favourites each month.

One last note, support indie book stores when you can. They are the folks who care about authors and getting our words into the hands of readers.
